In partnership with top circuits across the country, Showcanada honours theatre managers and staff who exemplify superior performance and a strong commitment to elevating the moviegoing experience.
These managers are chosen based on criteria ranging from customer service, operational excellence, community outreach and creativity.
The Independent Theatre Spotlight
Celebrating the spirit and enthusiasm of independent theatres across the country, this award honours a theatre demonstrating commitment, innovation, creativity, original programming and community involvement
The spotlighted theatre is selected by a jury of studio/distributor and industry representatives.
The Eugene Amodeo Showman of the Year
Named in memory of Eugene Amodeo, a longtime beloved member of the industry who exemplified the best in enthusiasm, creativity, tenacity and love of movies.
This annual award is an opportunity for theatres and distributors to honour an individual or company that has provided exceptional support, contribution or innovation to the Canadian theatrical movie business. The award is open to multiple sectors of the business including technology, concessions, media, suppliers and filmmakers.
A jury of theatre operators and studio/distribution representatives nominate and vote for the honouree.

The Hector Ross Award
Presented annually to the highest grossing Canadian Movie.
**NEW THIS YEAR**
The Rob Stewart Sustainability Award presented by Coca Cola
Rob Stewart was an acclaimed filmmaker and influential activist whose movies (Sharkwater, Revolution and Sharkwater Extinction) galvanized a movement to protect sharks, the ocean and the planet. Named in his honour, this new award will recognize a theatre whose efforts demonstrate a commitment to positive and sustainable environmental and social change.
Theatres are invited to enter based on initiatives undertaken in 2023/24. Initiatives can include innovative programming, operational efficiency, special events, community collaboration and employee initiatives.
A jury of industry representatives will select the winner from all qualifying entries
The winning theatre will receive a complimentary registration to ShowCanada 2024 along with round trip transportation and hotel accomodation in Halifax.
TO ENTER or NOMINATE A THEATRE:
Submit a letter outlining the details of any relevant initiative(s) including:
– when the activities were undertaken
– how the initiatives were intended to support social/environmental sustainability
– supporting documents/assets including any photos/video, letters of support
– measurable results and impact of the activity or event
– why these initiatives/event were important to your theatre and team
